The origins of Toruń's spirits factory are shrouded in mystery. Already in the 1850s, alcohol was produced on a semi-industrial scale in Toruń's Mokre district. Our factory was founded by Jewish entrepreneurs Georg and Natan Hirschfeld. The modern spirits production plant for its time, located today on Olbrachta Street, was inaugurated in 1884, and this date is considered the initial date. The alcohol produced there was known not only in Europe, but also in Africa and Asia. They also won several awards at international exhibitions in Melbourne, Graz and Königsberg. In 1890, the factory was taken over by Wolf Sultan, a Toruń magnate in the spirits production business, lover of literature and good drinks. Sultan continued the plant's dynamic development, and in 1919 the factory was taken over by Gdańsk merchant Herman Winkelhausen, who previously owned a spirits factory in Starogard Gdański. As part of the nationalization of the spirits industry in 1925, the Toruń spirits rectification plant became the property of the State Treasury and henceforth operated under the Polmos banner. The Second World War caused no damage to the plant, which is why you can still admire the company's buildings today, which are examples of well-preserved 19th-century industrial architecture.
After the war, production resumed and Toruń's trademark was high-quality alcohol, which was also used by Polmos in other cities.
In 1995, the rectification equipment was modernized and the use of coal in the plant was abandoned, making it safer for the environment. The plant has deep, crystalline water intakes, extracted from chalk deposits located at a depth of 220 meters.
In 2014, under the Toruńskie Wódki Ratunkowe banner, the factory entered a new stage of development and, with the new name, we created a series of unique products that are in keeping with our tradition and distinguished by their high quality and refined taste. . We have generations of experience behind us, which we use to create unique beverages. Our factory itself is a complex of historic buildings, over a hundred years old, which are still used in the production process and form a living museum of the history of the Polish spirits industry.
